In short: Pubs, cafés and restaurants in Dublin can use menuQR to turn their existing PDF menu into a QR code menu that guests open in the browser – no app needed. It's a practical way to keep written allergen information up to date, to run separate menus such as an early bird menu, and to serve the many visitors who'd rather read the menu on their own phone. menuQR is an online service from Germany; setup and support are fully digital.
Where a QR code menu helps Dublin venues most
Allergen information in writing
In Ireland, allergen information for food that isn't prepacked has to be available in writing – telling guests verbally isn't enough on its own. A digital menu is a convenient place for it: mark the 14 allergens per dish in your PDF and upload a new version whenever a recipe changes. Keep a printed copy for guests without a smartphone.
Early bird menus
Many Dublin restaurants offer an early bird menu – a set menu at a lower price for guests who dine early in the evening. Run it as a separate menu next to your à la carte, so guests see straight away what's available (set menu).
Pub food and carvery lunch
In pubs, lunch is often a carvery or a short daily menu, while evenings bring a different food offer and a long drinks menu. With up to three menus on the Professional plan, lunch, dinner and drinks each get their own PDF – updated in the morning, without reprinting.
Visitors from around the world
Dublin welcomes millions of international visitors every year, many of them heading for the pubs and restaurants of the city centre. QR codes on the tables let guests browse calmly in their own time, even on a packed Friday night.
Which plan fits which Dublin venue?
| Venue type | Typical menus | Suitable plan |
|---|---|---|
| Pub | lunch or carvery, evening menu, drinks | Professional (up to 3 menus) |
| Restaurant with early bird | early bird, à la carte, wine list | Professional |
| Café | one menu plus daily specials | Professional |
| Group with several venues | one menu per venue | Enterprise (unlimited) |
What applies to digital menus in Ireland
- Allergens: For food that isn't prepacked, allergen information must be provided in writing (S.I. No. 489 of 2014) – verbal information alone isn't enough. The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) publishes guidance for caterers.
- Price display: Catering businesses must display prices so guests can see them before entering (Retail Price (Food in Catering Establishments) Display Order 1984). A QR code can complement this display but doesn't replace it.
- Printed alternative: Keep a printed copy of your allergen information for guests without a smartphone.
