In short: Restaurants, bistros and cafés in Paris can use menuQR to turn their existing PDF menu – in French, English or both – into a QR code menu that guests open in the browser without an app. It's particularly practical for daily changing formules, busy terraces and the many international visitors. French rules still require a menu with prices displayed outside, so the QR code complements rather than replaces it. menuQR is an online service run from Germany; setup and support are fully online.
Where a QR code menu helps Paris venues most
Formule du jour and the ardoise
Many Paris bistros write the day's formule on a chalkboard, the ardoise – and visitors often photograph it to translate it. A QR code next to the board can open the same day's daily specials menu as a readable PDF in French and English. Update it each morning; the code stays the same.
Terraces
On a busy terrasse, menus get blown away, soaked or simply go missing. Weatherproof codes on each table (outdoor QR code) let guests browse while they wait for service – and free up staff during the lunch rush.
Bilingual menus for international guests
Paris is one of the most visited cities in the world. With the Professional plan you can offer up to three menus side by side – for example French, English and a separate wine list. Each language version is uploaded as its own reviewed PDF (multilingual menu).
Mandatory details belong in the PDF
French menus often carry extra information: the origin of meat, the „fait maison“ logo for homemade dishes and allergen details. menuQR shows your PDF exactly as you upload it, so all of this stays visible in the digital version – see mandatory menu information.
Which plan fits which Paris venue?
| Venue type | Typical menus | Suitable plan |
|---|---|---|
| Bistro | carte, formule du jour, wine list | Professional (up to 3 menus) |
| Café | one menu for food and drinks | Professional |
| Brasserie with terrace | French menu, English menu, drinks | Professional |
| Group with several venues | one menu per venue and language | Enterprise (unlimited) |
What applies to digital menus in France
- Allergens: For food that isn't prepacked, France requires allergen information to be available to guests in writing (Décret n° 2015-447).
- Menu outside: Restaurants must display a menu with prices outside the venue during service. A QR code can complement this display but doesn't replace it.
- Meat origin: The origin of beef, pork, poultry and lamb served must be indicated (Décret n° 2022-65).
- Prices: Menu prices must be final prices including taxes and service.
