QR code design: templates, colors and logo

In short: A QR code does not have to be black and square. menuQR ships six templates and lets you set dots, finder patterns, colors, frame, corner radius and frame width individually — in a preview that shows the result immediately. From Enterprise, your logo goes in the middle. Every template is checked against a decoder when it is created, so a pretty but unreadable design never ships.

Six templates as a starting point

The templates are not decoration, they are tested combinations: Standard, Classic, Modern, Rounded dots, Dark and Elegant. The first one matches the default state exactly — if you change nothing, you get Standard. From there, every axis can be changed individually.

Readability before looks

A QR code is a measuring instrument, not a picture. Three things decide whether it works: contrast between modules and background, a clear quiet zone around the code, and a module size the camera can still resolve. menuQR therefore checks templates against a decoder when they are created — not at one size, but at several, because some cameras downsample internally.

The logo follows the same logic: it sits on an area aligned to the module grid, and error correction is set to the highest level. The modules underneath are not drawn. The technical background is in QR code design (glossary).

Does one design apply to all menus?

Yes. The design belongs to the account, not to a single menu, so all table tents in the house look the same. If you change a color later, all QR graphics are regenerated; the printed code stays valid because only the image changes, not the address behind it.

Common questions about this feature

With the settings offered it stays readable. Every template is checked with a decoder at several sizes before it ships. Weak contrast and tiny modules are caught before they show up at the table.
Enterprise. Dots, finder shapes, colors, frame and corner radius are included in every plan at no extra cost.
Yes, code color and background are freely selectable. Keep enough contrast — light blue on white works, light yellow on white does not.
Only if you want the new look on the table. The already printed code stays valid because the target address does not change.
